Dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, widely known as Dr. Acne Popper, has amassed an audience of over three million subscribers on YouTube through her captivating acne extraction videos. In one of her recent uploads, dated Monday, she showcases the removal of a sebaceous cyst from a woman’s scalp.

Leveraging her adept surgical skills and the aid of anesthetics, Dr. Lee ensures the procedure is swift and relatively painless. At approximately 1:48 a.m., an eruption of purulent material is expelled from the cyst; by 2:30 p.m., Dr. Lee humorously remarks that it resembles a small lamp.

Throughout the extraction, Dr. Lee engages in a compelling dialogue with her patient, who recounts a previous attempt to excise a cyst at home. The patient mentioned she had squeezed the cyst, and after a few days, something emerged, yet the growth persisted.

This narrative underscores the futility and hazards of attempting self-removal of cysts.

According to DermNet NZ, the educational platform of the New Zealand Dermatology Society, sebaceous cysts are prevalent benign neoplasms of the scalp. These cysts are essentially sacs of epidermal cells filled with keratin, the protein constituting hair and nails, and a noxious substance released upon compression.
